5 Tips for great Black and White photos

There's something about black and white images that make a snapshot into something more.
They certainly add more emotion in certain circumstances and can be handy if you have an image that has lots of colourful destractions to draw your focus more to the subject.
Here are my top tips for shooting Black and White.

1 - Shoot in color first, then change to black and white in post processing. Even if your fancy camera has B&W option, it doesn't make for the most flattering images.

2. Stark, minimalistic images can look great in black and white. Simple yet striking.

3. Candid snaps, natural, un-posed shots of people interacting are often very emotive when converted to black and white.

4. Choose images that have distracting colour pops in the background to covert to B&W. This will draw your eye back to the subject instead of something that's not meant to be there.

5. Adjusting your contrast a little* can really make your B&W image pop. If you have a little experience in post processing program, try adjusting to whites to pure white and blacks to pure black to eliminate the "muddiness".
