So you don’t feel
pretty/thin/happy enough to be photographed?
I hear this excuse time and time again when discussing
family portraits with people. They would LOVE to have them taken, but only when they lose that extra 10kgs,
grow their hair out of that latest colour or when little Johnny is old enough
to smile for the camera.
Look, I totally understand. I cringe when I look at photos
taken of me. But why is it we can see the beauty in our sisters, mothers and best
friends, but not in ourselves. It’s there but we just obsess over the tiniest of
imperfections – it’s crazy!
You know what? When you have your family photo taken, your
husband will look at those shots with absolute pride for the family he has
worked so hard for, your mum will look at them and swell with love, and your
sister will see how awesome you look in that top (she'll have to "borrow" that one sometime)… but no-one will be criticising HOW you look.
Here’s the thing. Life can change in an instant. In a flash of a second there may no photo
evidence of you existing on this earth except a few crappy selfies taken on a
smart phone or blurry out of focus drunken shots taken on your last night out
with the girls.
The reality is, the camera doesn't capture the warmth of a
mothers hug, the smell of daddy’s armpit, or the giggles of your children. But
a good photographer can capture images that tell the story of your family.
Life doesn’t wait for you to get thinner/ prettier/ older.
Life is happening now!
Don’t leave a gap in memories that will be left to your
children, they deserve to remember you just as beautiful as you are!
Here's a shot of me with my handsome hubby and gorgeous
kidlets. Totally not a great shot of myself but hey, Miss 4 needed a family
photo to take to kindy. WELL, This is “US” and it’s just perfect to her!
